The Turning Point service priority for Catholic Charities of Steuben stabilizes families in economic crisis and supports them as they strive for self-sufficiency. As a convener of the local poverty coalition, Turning Point works to connect people living in poverty with resources of opportunity that can help them turn a corner in their lives.

Basic Needs Services provide assistance that helps clients avert homelessness, utility shut-off, hunger and medicine shortage. Turning Point serves all who seek help in a welcoming, comforting atmosphere.

Support Services advise clients on how to access supports and benefits that improve short-term economic stability.

Development Services help people prevent future financial crises and position themselves for long-term stability by setting goals, accessing opportunities, and gaining knowledge. Turning Point counselors assist people in developing plans to stop getting by and start getting ahead. This includes using a tool called My Plan to guide them through the process of setting goals and steps to reach those goals. It may also include referrals to outside programs, such as participating in the Getting Ahead process, job training or other employment supports.
