Kinship Family & Youth Family Preservation services provide access to safe and stable family environments for children while helping families build their capacity for healthy functioning. Family Preservation Services are offered as follows:

Healthy Families Steuben

SHAPE

SHAPE provides tailored home-visiting in Steuben, Allegany and Yates counties to help improve family relationships and keep troubled families together. We educate families on:

  • Providing a safe and healthy environment for their child or childrenFamilyAtTable
  • Child development and parenting
  • Conflict management strategies
  • Goal-setting
  • Accessing community resources

Hours
In-home services are provided by appointment and group activities occur as scheduled.

Fees
There are no fees for the SHAPE program. Referred families participate free of charge.

How to Enroll
Families are referred to the program by other agencies that serve them. Depending on the county, some families are required to participate and others participate voluntarily.

Therapeutic Foster Care provides coordination to ensure that children in foster care receive planned services in support of their overall well-being and their ability to return home. In addition, we recruit, train and support foster parents, providing:

  • Pre-service and ongoing training
  • 24/7 support
  • A generous monthly stipend
  • Foster family activities

Hours
The program’s office hours are 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Fees
There are no fees for families to participate in the program. Foster parents are paid a stipend when serving in that role.

How to Enroll
Children who have special psychological, social, emotional or behavioral needs and are in need of foster care are referred to the program. Prospective foster parents come from all walks of life but have things in common including a love for children, dedication to child well-being, and the unique ability to love and let go of children who may return to their birth parents or be adopted. Prospective foster parents must go through a background check and meet certain other requirements [link to doc]. Call the program office for details.
