To better serve our neighbors in need in the eastern part of Steuben County, Catholic Charities of Steuben is pleased to announce a new Turning Point location in Painted Post, NY. The new office is located at 143 Village Square. Turning Point will still maintain its satellite office in the Corning Senior Center at 1 Park Lane, Corning, NY.

“One of the driving factors in making the move was to find a location with enough space to introduce Turning Point’s Fresh Farmacy program to the eastern part of Steuben County,” said Turning Point Corning Site Coordinator, Rosa Burd.

Fresh Farmacy is a fruit and vegetable prescription program. Through partnerships with the local medical community, doctors can prescribe six months of fresh produce to Medicaid-eligible people who have, or who are in jeopardy of developing, chronic health conditions. People receive produce through Turning Point, along with a wellness plan, education on cooking and preparing produce, and weekly check-ins to see how they are progressing. Turning Point collects data to measure health outcomes and the person’s progress to demonstrate potential successes.

In addition to Fresh Farmacy, Turning Point also addresses other social determinants of health for participants to further help them to achieve positive health outcomes. For example, does the person have stable housing or a place to prepare meals? Do they have transportation to get to doctor appointments or to pick-up their Fresh Farmacy produce?

The Fresh Farmacy program, piloted at Turning Point Bath in September 2018, was made possible through the support of Finger Lakes Performing Provider System, the Food Bank of the Southern Tier, and the Bethesda Foundation.
