Turning Point is now accepting donations to its 10th annual Back-to-School Supply Drive for Steuben County students grades Pre-K through 12th. A new format this year – a School Supply Depot – means no sign ups are necessary to receive school supplies. In addition, Steuben County Rural Ministry will be distributing new socks and underwear for K to 12th grade students.
Turning Point typically distributes at least 500 backpacks filled with school supplies each year and is asking for the community’s help in meeting this need. Needed items include: backpacks, binders (1.5” and 3”), calculators, colored pencils, composition notebooks, crayons, ear buds, erasers, 2-pocket folders, glue sticks, highlighters, index cards, loose leaf paper, markers, mechanical pencils, one- and five-subject notebooks, pencil boxes, pencils, plastic baggies (gallon and sandwich size), scissors, and tissues.
Turning Point is accepting school supplies and monetary donations by Monday, August 14, 2017 at either the Bath or Hornell Turning Point locations: 23 Liberty Street, Bath, NY or 20 Elm Street, Suite 2, Hornell, NY. Monetary donations may also be mailed to Turning Point Administrative Offices, 23 Liberty Street, Bath, NY 14810.
The community may also drop off school supplies donations at the following community partner locations. For Turning Point Bath: Bath VA, Centenary United Methodist Church in Bath, Dollar General, Family Dollar, First Presbyterian Church in Bath, Five Star Bank, Mount Washington Church/Ferguson Ministries in Hammondsport, St. Mary’s Church, St. Thomas Church in Bath, and Wallace Wesleyan Church. For Turning Point Hornell: Hornell Area Family YMCA or St. Ann’s Church.
This year, school supplies will be distributed in a new format – a School Supply Depot hosted at the Turning Point Bath and Hornell locations. Parents must bring their proof of address and school supply list on either Thursday, August 24, 2017; Friday, August 25, 2017; or Saturday, August 26, 2017 to the Turning Point location corresponding to the school district in which they reside.
Residents of Avoca, Bath, Bradford, Cameron, Cohocton, Hammondsport, Prattsburgh, Pulteney, Savona or Wayland school districts can pick up school supplies from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. at Turning Point Bath, 23 Liberty Street, Bath, NY.

In addition, Steuben County Rural Ministry will be distributing new socks and underwear for K to 12th grade students. Parents are asked to bring names, grade levels, and sizes for all children receiving items.
