Many individuals and families that Turning Point serves start with the pantry. Often when a family is in financial crisis their first thought is to find relief by accessing a pantry. Frequently they are not aware of the other helping services available to them. Staff are available to work with families as they come through the pantry helping to identify and address the other needs the family may have positioning them for a more successful start to get back on their feet.

Emergency Assistance

Monday – Friday
9:00 am to 12:00 noon

Providing for Steuben County Residents

Turning Point may be able to provide short-term assistance to low-income families with utility shutoffs, emergency prescriptions, transportation, clothing, school supplies, and various other needs according to available resources. We work closely with the families, the utility companies, and other service organizations to work out solutions to provide the needed help. In the case of a utility problem such as reconnecting power or preventing a shutoff, often staff are able to negotiate with the utility company so that the family pays a portion of the cost and Turning Point pays part. This system empowers the person in need and demonstrates good stewardship of available funds. Many times an emergency can be resolved by providing direction, necessary information, and referral to the appropriate agency.

Homeless Intervention Program

Monday – Friday
9:00 am to 12:00 noon

Providing for Steuben County residents who:
1. Are having trouble paying their rent or mortgage,
2. Have received an eviction notice or foreclosure notice, or,
3. Are currently homeless,
Turning Point’s Homeless Intervention Program (HIP) may be able to help. Our staff works with individuals and families to help locate affordable housing. We provide an up-dated list of apartments and rooms in the area and a phone for landlord contacts. If a client meets the criteria, one-time financial assistance may also be available to prevent an eviction or to help a client move into new housing. We are also experienced in working collaboratively with other agencies to resolve issues related to housing.

Additionally we provide case management services to those enrolled in our Homeless Intervention Program. Case management helps families to identify potential problems and ways to work around them to assist in maintaining long-term housing stability.
