Steuben Council on Addictions (SCA)
SCA is a New York State licensed substance
abuse agency. We are a information and referral based
agency who has been providing prevention education services
to the County for over 45 years. The primary goal of
the SCA is to empower Steuben
County residents to live addiction-free lives. We seek
to accomplish this goal through Outreach, Education
and Advocacy. In order to meet our goals, SCA
works cooperatively with many community organizations;
such as Central Steuben County schools, Probation, Family
Service Society, Hornell Area Concern for Youth and
other New York State Substance Abuse Councils.
Prevention Education Services
The SCA offers to school districts and communities
comprehensive programs, which are designed to meet the
specific needs of all Steuben County residents relating
to alcohol, tobacco, violence and drug prevention and
intervention. We are dedicated to assisting our community
in choosing healthy safe and drug free alternatives
through science research-based and custom designed educational programs.
Substance Abuse Screenings and Referrals
The SCA offers science researched-based
referral services, to help determine whether you may
have a need for further assessment or substance abuse
treatment services. These screenings provided in a
confidential and private setting and are provided at
no cost.
Professional Trainings
The SCA offers prevention education training
to teachers, schools, service groups, parents human
service agencies, business and industry and other community
organizations. Depending on your agencies needs we will
custom design a training program to meet your needs.
Multimedia Resource Libraries
The SCA provides multimedia resources countywide
to Human Service Providers, Treatment Providers, School
Districts, Community members and Colleges. These resources
consist of; drug and alcohol information, videos, audio-cassettes
and brochures/pamphlets and can be accessed by visiting
either our Corning or Bath offices or through the mobile
library. For mobile library locations or to arrange

Drinking Driver Program (DDP)
The Drinking Driver Program is a court mandated, seven-week
educational program that covers many aspects of the
traffic system and drinking and driving. There are weekly
classroom sessions and each participant is required
to have an assessment done to determine if they should
be evaluated further for treatment of an alcohol or
other drug problem.
Advocacy for Adult Services
The SCA serves as a liaison for the Self-Help
community. We assist Self-Help groups
in starting new groups and in making referrals to Self-Help
groups.
